It was built between 1720-44, and the most notable features of this important UNESCO World Heritage Site are its spectacular monumental staircase hall with its huge fresco by Tiepolo. The on-site church of Würzburg’s palatial Residence dates back to the 1730s. In the former cloister, the Lusamgärtlein, is a memorial stone commemorating Walther von der Vogelweide, Germany's greatest medieval poet, who died in Würzburg in 1230.Located in Würzburg's Marktplatz, St. Mary's Chapel — the Marienkapelle — was built between 1377-1479 and remains the finest Late Gothic building in the city.
Wurzburg, Bavaria, 97070. Founded in 2002 in a former warehouse overlooking the river, this popular art museum features a variety of different styles, including regional artworks and an important collection of modern concrete art from across Europe. On our one visit there we didn’t make it to the fortress, unfortunately. If you make it back and see the Residenz, go on the guided tour – that’s the only way you can see the BEST rooms in the huge palace. Highlights include a number of ponds, small lakes, and fountains that were added in the mid 1700s, as well as more than 200 sculptures made from sandstone and representing everything from mythical characters to animals and ancient gods.A small museum on the main floor of the palace features displays and exhibits related to the garden and its historical significance (audio guides are available).In addition to its many larger attractions, Würzburg boasts a number of interesting smaller museums worth checking out, many of them associated with the city's university.

Can’t recommend it more I thought the same thing about the bridge- it really reminded me of Charles Bridge in Prague. 49° 47' 35" N, 9° 55' 55" E . Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. The bathroom story made me chuckle and thankfully yes, Germany is very civilized when it comes to bathrooms.We loved our 2 nights in historic Wurzburg, evenings hanging out with everyone else on the bridge with a glass of white Sylvaner wine (what a great custom, right? Really recommend it.Wow! I would definitely visit here and see all the beautiful churches. But we’ll be back sometime to see it in season.wow!
