Although often invisible to some, it's still alive and kicking. However, the book does lack a little tone and emotion at some parts. 0440219736 I thought this book would be great to read in my future classroom. But not everything was happy. The theme in this book was slavery and it was sad to be reading these books because slavery did happen many many many years ago. Nightjohn, a young adult novel by Gary Paulsen (1993), takes place shortly before the Civil War on a Southern plantation. Who was your favorite character and why? It's because she was from a time period where slaves couldn't read or write very well, but it made it a little difficult to read, especially in the beginning when I wasn't used to it. He began teaching Sarney how to read and write. All in all if you set your entire mind to something and have hope and believe in yourself you can accomplish your goal.Sarny is a book about a free woman who previously fled from a plantation. He began spending hours alone in the basement of his apartment building, reading one book after another. She named him Tyler Too. This book challenged my thoughts and made me think about racism today. I didn't figure out this was a sequel until I was finished. The story and legacy of the enigmatic leader of the notorious 1831 homicidal slave revolt in Virginia, along with reviews of works about him, are explored; twentieth century civil rights discussed and cultural relativism mentioned. They will hear about the endless beatings, the harassment, and cruelty that these people suffered simply because of the country they came from and the color of their skin.
Readers will get an inside view of what really happened in the life of a plantation slave. Sarny guesses she is 12 by marks on the wall mammy has made to measure all the youth in her care. Her two children, Tyler and Delie are sold off as slaves. A man who has struggled personally has conflicts with his upwardly mobile lawyer brother and well to-do fiancee and is reluctantly to be the best man at their wedding. A must read.I really liked this book, even though it was short, it had a lot of meaning and taught you what your experiences's would have been like and how you would have lived.

A charismatic old acquaintance drifts into town, stirring up trouble for a mild-mannered family. Sarny grew up on a plantation with no family, she married a man and had two kids, Tyler and Delie. Paulsen is great at writing the stories of hardened survivors, and the scenario is just so ripe for his touch. This discrimination shouldn't still exist today.Nightjohn by Gary Paulson was an interesting read. She named him Tyler Too. For example Sarney didn't get in trouble for looking at the book. Laura because she made the journey to New Orleans faster for Sarny and LI loved the book Sarny by Gary Paulsen. The reaSarny, a slave goes to find her children who sold only a week before. January 1st 1995 I look forward to reading more about Sarny as well as other Paulsen books. Imagine that you are a slave and your kids get sold from you and you have to travel towards the slave keepers in the south.
Her years in bondage are like scars embedded in her; they may fade, but they will never leave completely. The reason for that is that I thought Sarny had lots of courage to find her children. She has taught us a very important lesson, don’t let anything get in the way of what you want, you can do anything you believe in.A theme that is shown throughout the book "Sarny" is if you set you mind to something, have hope, and believe you can accomplish anything.
This book has lots of hardships in it, her husband died from being worked to hard, and she was seperated from the only other family she knew. A good example of Sarny learning to tolerate the horrific troubles life throws at her is when she is separated from her children. Nightjohn is a book that gives readers a whole new view on slavery. There were some parts I liked and some i didnt. Freedom that only knowledge could b“It was in the flower bed that I first heard about Nightjohn. He catches her and beats Mammy instead of Sarny. I hope that you like this book too.I thought the book Sarny, A life remembered was a good read.
