This compilation is a timeless classic. quite simply one of best electronic mix albums I've listened to. Jake Fairley – Oshawa 04. Balance 005
OK, so I have only heard the first cd so far, and only heard it once, but all I can say is "wow !"
Zeta Reticula – Tool 1 05.
And if ‘Balance 005’ mixed by James Holden is an extension of who I am as a person, then I’m proud of that. Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations mit nichts zuvergleichen ! I'll make an exception here, and NW himself wouldn't mind since the prog maestro is always saying how good he thinks James Holden to be.

In the last few years James Holden has quickly established himself as one of the dance music communitys pillars, having an impact of which many an older producer and DJ can but dream.
CD1 01. Holden first shot to fame when Way Out West DJ Nick Warren charted the then-unknown 19-year-olds "Horizons" on CDR for three months. It's definitely leaning more toward techno with a lot of melody, which is what I tend to enjoy the most. We live in the age of Napster, Bit Torrent, Limewire etc., so I could have easily downloaded this album, burned it and been done with it. of this are available direct from the Balance Music label - i ordered & received a new copy this week :)
Seems another balance series have vinyl release, why not give a chance in this compilation?

I got to agree, this is one of the best mixes I have heard as far as taking you on a Journey, but enough common ground so most people will like it, but it get's really deep at times. Something about this set sounds too electronic, not warm enough, almost plasticy -- is that a word. I read the reviews here and was kind of hesitant about it and generally excited too. Further singles along with various side projects for Hope Recordings, Bedrock and Loaded have compounded the young producers reputation, as he gradually evolved his own unique sound. This progressive style of house that came out of the post trance scene and is on show par excellence on this CD was never topped for me, not even by Sasha's fantastic various albums or other Holden efforts. Speaking of Petter, "All Together" is the highlight of CD1 and the whole compilation, followed by the fluffy mix of Nathan Fake's "outhouse" which is SO incredibly trippy, i can't get enough of it. I could rant about how great CD1 is all day but others have done that.Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2004
I'll always be in awe of it. Meta.83 – Antrieb 03. 2 ×
I think I can say, without fear or retraction, that this is going to up there in my top ten ever dance mixes.
Because ‘Balance 005’ is an intelligent, thought provoking, tear-inducing and at times, complex example of how music should be presented. referencing Balance 005, 2xCD, Comp, Mixed, EQGCD008 I understand that Holden was known as a Progressive House DJ at the time this was released, but in listening to this again for the millionth time, I really wouldn't describe this as Progressive House at all. Warrens good taste was affirmed as the track went on to be a Pete Tong Essential new tune, was picked up by Sonys dance label offshoot Incredible, and named one of UK dance bible Mixmags Top 100 dance records of all-time.
