Johanna's sister doesn't seem to accept Johanna is gay, and she also is emotionally affected by her miscarriages. I wish Reeve had been drawn as a more of a real girl to us (she hardly ever leaves object/plot status) but I do enjoy the way Julie Anne Peters consistently raises the bar of the teen lesbian genre.I enjoyed this book a lot.
All rights reserved. This book is not good if your looking for a adventerous love story. That speaks to the powerful writing here. I would recommend this to a young adult who is questioning whether or not their relationship with a significant other is healthy or not.I read this book when I had just turned 14 years old (early 2011) and about to start high school in a few months. And why is abuse a sure sign of an unhealthy relationship? How has the mother's drug addiction affected her family? How common is child abuse?
The pacing and the plot were technically good but I found it to be rather predictable. Rage is a very difficult book to read. Be the first to review this title. In RAGE: A LOVE STORY, a high school senior, Johanna, begins her first romance with another senior girl named Reeve. Growing up like this has caused the two to have bad reputations and be somewhat violent. She witnesses Reeve hurting her twin brother, and soon she is … Throughout the novel, the reader experiences the emotional roller coaster of their turbulent relationsJohanna only wants one thing - Reeve Hartt. Reeve's twin brother has autism, and she comes from a home with a drug-addicted mother and abusive father. Because it is deeply and downright depressing, even for Julie Anne Peters.
She tackles young lesbian abusive relationships, which, oddly, there aren't many books about (ha), but I don't like the speed at which the characters are "in love". Her most depressing one yet, it actually almost made me cry (the SECOND timeI will start off by saying that I both loved and hated this book at the same time. I especially liked keeping you a secret but rage was good too. Find all the books, read about the author, and more. First love can be very complicated (or any love, really). And this book boldly goes where not too many have gone before. When their relationship struggles, Reeve begins to physically abuse Johanna who stays with her girlfriend despite the violence. Combine that with rising rates of teen domestic violence within relationships and you have an explosive story on your hands.I've read some of the author's other YA GLBT books(Luna, and Keeping You A Secret) and enjoyed them a lot more than I did this one. She answers your questions about dealing with critics, cheaters, and ru...[Does anyone understand why she left her in the end to go with her sister to collage? In RAGE: A LOVE STORY, a high school senior, Johanna, begins her first romance with another senior girl named Reeve. I've been having a decent time rereading all of these Julie Anne Peters books, and even the ones that frustrated me I at least found readable and reasonably light-hearted and fun and full of good cute queer content, and I haven't been shy about the issues I had with them... but I have to be honest, I straight up hated this one. Reeve and her brother Robbie have always lived in awful circumstances, using mother and abusive father. The love overpowers the hate because I think it has a very powerful message in it that everyone needs to know about, even if they don’t ever read this book. I'll admit, I was hooked to the book and couldn't stop reading, but I was a bit disappointed with some of the language of the book. She knows it. Not good character development, which is why I disliked most of the characters so much. A murder.Johanna has erotic fantasies about her crush long before they begin dating.
Don't let the hot pink cover and the label A Love Story deceive you. Sexual content needs discussion in urban coming-of-age read. But for someone who has been in an abusive relationship, it's extremely difficult. Reeve's violent tendencies are visible from the very beginning, but Johanna does not seem to care, as the allure of Reeve overpowers her better judgment. Rather than feeling victimized by everything, Johanna tries to make things right with those who don't deserve it while ignoring those who need her, something that I found very realistic.
